Words from Bishop Spence at Lambeth
July 21st 2008: Bishop Spence has been appointed as chaplain to the staff at Lambeth. He is currently running around the halls of Kent University and through the streets of Canterbury. He had to have one of the students add an extra hole on his belt - he's losing weight!!
Bishop Ralph indicated that the opening service at Lambeth was fabulous. The 3 day retreat for the bishops in the Canterbury Cathedral was profound and meaningful. Archbishop Rowan Willians directed the retreat. He was very honest and clear about the difficulties and the direction of the Anglican Communion througout the world. At one point he asked the bishops to find someone in the group that they were trying to avoid, or with whom they would rather not interact. He asked them to go over and pray with that person.
Bishop Ralph indicated that the bible studies that the bishops and their spouses were participating in were going very well. Carol Spence is in a group with Mrs. Venables, the spouse of the bishop who heads the southern cone.

The Right Reverend D. Ralph Spence
was the tenth Bishop of Niagara, having been consecrated in Christ's Church Cathedral, Hamilton, Ontario on September 20th, 1997 (as Coadjutor Bishop), and installed as Diocesan Bishop on January 11, 1998. Bishop Spence retired from ministry on Friday February 29th 2008.
