Diocese of Niagara (Anglican Church of Canada) and the Network:

Chronology of Events 2008:

Feb
17 St. George’s, Lowville and St. Hilda’s, Oakville vote to join ANiC (SC)
18 Synod Council Appoints Rev. Susan Wells and Canon Brian Ruttan asParish Administrators and Priests in Charge of St. Georges and St. Hilda's respectively.
19 Notice is given to clergy that they are suspended and asked to turn in keys and Wardens are informed that they no longer act for the Synod and must turn in keys as well. The Bank accounts of the parishes are frozen by the Parish Administrators.
20 Parish Administrators visit the parishes to ask to take possession and are met by former clergy and wardens who refuse and announce allegiance to a new bishop and diocese. Possession is not possible without breach of the peace.  The Synod requests a court hearing Friday to obtain possession.
21 An interim agreement is reached which involves shared services, joint administration, disclosure of assets and non disparagement.
24 Diocesan services are held at 9 a.m., Network services at 10:30 a.m. in both parish churches. Church of the Good Shepherd, St. Catharines votes to join the Network
25 Synod Council appoints Archdeacon Bruce McPetrie as Parish Administrator and Priest in Charge.
26 Face to face negotiations begin to build on the interim agreement, and ensure that both parties are treated fairly until the longer term issue of ownership of the properties can be settled by the courts.
27 Negotiations fail on one issue, the sharing of services in the parishes
29 Court rules that until a full hearing of both sides occurs on March 20th The Diocese of Niagara will not have access to conduct services. Clergy of Network Parishes are informed that the Diocese acknowledges their resignations and that they are no longer employees. Wardens of Good Shepherd are told they no longer act on behalf of the Diocese.
March
8 Diocesan Services are held in the Old Lowville School House, none at St. Hilda’s.
4 Synod Council ratifies actions taken by Bishop and Diocesan leaders and authorizes the Bishop and Secretary of Synod to take legal actions necessary to confirm legal ownership of the properties.
5 Network wardens and Parish Administrators have first meeting to work on joint administration issues.
9 Snow storm and unsafe conditions at Old Lowville Schoolhouse make worship impossible, and service scheduled there is cancelled.
13 Wardens and Parish Administrators/Clergy meet to discuss the joint administration of the churches.
